just arrived in athens!  have our own room in a cute little hostel.  the walking tour is tomorrow.  for tonight, we’ll just explore on our own.  i’ll try to update a bit now and then.

Why Europe is wonderful:

I lost my glasses and thought I could survive without a pair, but it’s getting really bad.  I asked my landlady about the “opticians” as they say, and she said I can go to Boots, the chemist, and they have frames there.  Well, I looked and they have nice frames in a 25-75 pound price range.  Then she asked if I had my prescription and I said no and that I actually need a new one anyway and she goes, “Oh well in that case you WOULD have to pay for the eye test.”  The way she said it, I was expecting some horrible fee, considering I’ve been waiting for two years to pass to get an eye test so insurance will cover it.  No. It’s a twenty pound fee, but they may cover me because I’m a full-time student here.  So basically I could get an eye test, a new prescription, and a new pair of glasses for 25 pounds. As opposed to the two hundred and whatever else they’d be charging back home.

Thank you, British health care system!  You rock!

Zurich!!!

I will be arriving in Zurich, Switzerland on Friday night and coming back to London on Tuesday!  My friend Sara and I booked everything and two of our friends are in the process of booking things so they can join us!  I’m so pumped!!!  Can’t wait to snowboard!

It’s too bad the train tickets are so expensive ‘cos I hear it’s a really beautiful ride in to Switzerland from Paris. Yet I think I would have died knowing I was in Paris not being able to explore the city.  Soon, though!

I will take pictures there and post them to Snapfish!!!  I really ought to work on uploading to that more, but it’s really time-consuming and annoying.  It will happen one day, I promise.

Tate Modern!

Got up early and spent the day at Tate Modern. It was really amazing. Picasso, Dalí, Monet, Matisse, Cézanne, and so many other great works. Aahh, I loved it so much. I can’t wait to go back there soon!

I’m in the middle of making plans to go to Switzerland with a friend this weekend. I’ve never skiied, only snowboarded (badly), but we’re thinking of taking intro lessons and skiing one of the days!!! I’m very excited!

I’ll update when I know more!
